A special charity event will celebrate the centenary of the RAF with guest Typhoon pilots.
Red Arrow pilot Flt Lt Mike Bowden has today been announced as compere for a charity event in aid of Jon Egging Trust.
An Audience With… the Typhoon Display team, due to be held at the Lincolnshire Showground from 7 – 10pm on October 11, will give guests a unique insight into the careers of two Typhoon pilots.
Sqn Ldr Ian Smith MBE
Sqn Ldr Ian Smith MBE joined the Royal Air Force in 1983 and will talk through his thirty years of experience including a tour as a Red Arrows pilot, his role as commanding officer of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and his current position at RAF Coningsby flying Typhoons.
Flt Lt Jim Peterson
Flt Lt Jim Peterson is this year’s Typhoon Display Pilot, taking to the skies across the UK and abroad. Having designed the display himself to show off the Typhoon’s immense power and acceleration, Jim considers it a great honour to take up the role in what is a milestone year for the RAF.
Red 9, Flt Lt Mike Bowden, has been on the Red Arrows team for four years. Born in Lincoln and raised in Newport, South Wales, whilst in Sixth form education he completed an RAF and Air League flying scholarship and went on to gain his Private Pilot’s Licence aged just 17.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Jon Egging Trust said: “This is shaping up to be an exceptional event! It’s a rare opportunity to meet and hear from the RAF Typhoon Team as well as ask all your burning questions about display flying from pilots who have flown with the Red Arrows, the Battle of Britain Memorial flight and Typhoon.
“The Jon Egging Trust is all about inspiring the next generation and we feel very proud to be supported by such inspirational individuals making their mark in the aviation world.”
In another highlight for the event, visitors will have the first chance to meet and greet the new Typhoon Display Pilot for 2019.
Appealing to aviation, RAF and Lincolnshire enthusiasts alike, all profits from the event will be donated to the Jon Egging Trust.
Tickets for An Audience With… the RAF Typhoon Display team are on sale now, priced at £18 and include a drink on arrival. This event is sponsored by Asali and Lincolnshire Brewing Company.
