Imps to face Cobblers at home in FA Cup first round

Up the Imps!

Lincoln City have been given a home draw against Northampton in an all League Two tie in the first round of this year’s FA Cup.

The two teams met on the opening day of the League Two season back in August as a Matt Green goal guided the Imps, who host Carlisle on Tuesday, to a narrow 1-0 away win.

With Lincoln currently top of League Two, they will no doubt fancy their chances and manager Danny Cowley, who turned 40 on Monday, will have time to prepare for the match at Sincil Bank which is set to be played at some point between November 9-12.

Lincoln will be hoping to do better than last season when they lost 1-0 at AFC Wimbledon in the first round of the 2017/18 FA Cup.

Instead the Imps will be looking to replicate the magic of their 2016/17 FA Cup campaign when they became the first non-league side in over 100 years to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

During that fantastic cup run the Imps beat the likes of Ipswich, Brighton and Premier League side Burnley before eventually losing out at Arsenal in the quarter final.

Elsewhere in the county Scunthorpe were given a home tie against Burton Albion, while Grimsby will host MK Dons in an all League Two tie.
