Inquest opens after man killed by falling car

A man who died after a car he was working on fell on him last month has been identified and an inquest opened into his death.

As previously reported, emergency services rushed to the scene at The Chase, Crowland after 7pm on Saturday, September 29.

Fire crews performed CPR on him, but he was sadly pronounced dead at his home. Lincolnshire Police confirmed they were not treating the incident as suspicious.

Lincolnshire Coroners Service has identified the man as 58-year-old Gerald Francis McDaid from Crowland.

An inquest was opened by coroner M Spittal at Boston Coroners Court on Monday, October 8.

Mr McDaid was working on his car – a Mercedes four-wheel drive – on his driveway. It had been jacked up on a gravel driveway and he was under it when the jack moved and the car fell on him.

He was found deceased on his driveway with his place of death being confirmed as ‘at home’.

It has now gone to a post-mortem and the coroners service are awaiting results and police reports with the case adjourned and a provisional date set for March 2019.

After the incident Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue previously said: “Crowland crew attended and carried out CPR for a considerable time before the ambulance crew arrived. The crew used hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the man. The man was deceased.”
