Lincolnshire firefighters tackle hose running challenge for charity

The challenge begins!

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are calling on firefighters across the county to take part in a fire hose running challenge to raise money for charity.

The service-wide challenge is to raise money for The Firefighters Charity, a charity that supports fire service personnel recovering from illness, injury or psychological trauma.

Around 50 teams are needed to take part, each contributing to #My75Miles challenge to mark the 75th anniversary of the charity.

Lincolnshire’s Chief Fire Officer Nick Borrill was one of the first to sign up with his HQ team of senior officers and said: “This is a great challenge and an excellent way to raise money for The Firefighters Charity.

“There is no doubt it will be tough for the ‘senior’ team and I’m sure there will be a few aches and pains after we’ve completed it.”

Crews from across the county are encouraged to take part in the event.

As well as the pride of finishing the challenge, there will be extra incentive to take part with prizes for fastest time, most money raised, best recruitment ideas and best community fire safety engagement.

The fire crews taking part must complete the challenge between October 29 and November 11.

Event organiser and Deputy Divisional Commander Mark Housam said: “We are trying to get as many stations or teams to take part as possible.”

“As well as the money raised to help people in need, an event like this also raises awareness of The Firefighters Charity and all the work they do to help people who work or have worked in the fire service.”

The HQ team made up of senior officers, including CFO Nick Borrill, will take place on Monday 29 in the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue car park at 1:30pm.
