‘Much needed’ crematorium plans submitted

There have long been calls for more options

Plans have been submitted for a brand new crematorium in Thurlby in an effort to provide a “much needed” service in North Kesteven.

South Lincolnshire Crematorium and Lincolnshire Co-operative lodged the proposals to North Kesteven District Council for land west of Thurlby Road.

Councillors heard initial plans for the building back in September.

The proposals include a single storey building which ‘bears many similarities’ to one the applicants already own in Surfleet.

It would be accessed via Haddington Lane, and would include an 85 space car park, gardens and landscaping.

Andy Bowser, from South Lincolnshire Crematorium, said: “This will provide much-improved accessibility and better service for the majority of North Kesteven population. This in turn will cut down journey times and reduce stress by being greater certainty to mourners.

“The new facility will offer tranquil and peaceful rural settings away from the harsh urban surroundings and traffic.

“It will also offer a fresh, new and modern venue that will improve people’s overall experience at a difficult time.”

The applicants added that the crematorium would relieve pressure on the current service in Lincoln which is “beyond its practical capacity”.

Meanwhile, the applicant said in their plans that it is “widely accepted” that the service is needed in the region.
