New Barton petrol station set to be approved

Local action group fiercely opposed it

New plans for a service station, drive through coffee shop and convenience store off the A1077 near Barton-Upon-Humber are expected to get the go-ahead.

Euro Garages Ltd submitted plans for a petrol station, along with a sandwich shop, three jet washes and car parking.

The land, known as Top Field,  forms part of a Lidl development along with a pub and restaurant which was fiercely opposed by local residents.

North Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee approved the plan and have been recommended to accept the new petrol station proposal.

Euro Garages are seeking to amend the application to replace the already approved pub and restaurant.

The company have said that the development would provide up to 45 jobs in the area once complete.

In their plans, they added that the new station would help to improve the town.

Both Barton Town Council and the Top Field Action Group, who campaigned against the Lidl store, have objected to the new plans.

Town councillors and campaigners said they had concerns over “significant traffic volumes” and its effect on the area.

Mr Paul Chapman, who is part of the action group, said in a letter to the local authority that the plans do not take into account the views of residents.

“The views of the residents appear to have been totally ignored yet again,” he said.

“On behalf of the residents living in the immediate locality we ask that the council’s planning committee reject this ill-conceived planning application completely.”
