The heartwarming reason this house is aglow with Christmas lights

The lights are brighter than Rudolph’s nose

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at a house in Lincoln after they put up thousands of lights for a special charity display.

Starting off with just two lights, Peter Clare has bought so many lights that he needs to spend five weekends in the run up to Christmas making the house look festive.

Peter took over the display from his late father 14 years ago and the lights have been growing ever since.

He works with his sister, who lives next door, to make the display look bigger and brighter every year.

The house at 65 Meadow Lane in North Hykeham is lit up every night from 4pm to 9pm.

Peter told The Lincolnite: “I get all different types of reactions. We have had some drivers honking their horns and others calling me Danny DeVito from Deck the Halls.

“Some love the lights and some hate them, but I like the display. They’re up quite early, but I started with the display before Halloween.

“We are raising money for two charities, Great Ormond Street and the Smile Train – for children with cleft lips.

“Our sister was born with a cleft lip and a palate, so I am doing it all for her really.”

He asks for visitors to take a small donation to his door and is hoping to raise over £500 for his chosen charities.
