Family heartbroken: Search continues for missing killer whale trainer

Police are continuing the search

The family of a missing 28-year-old woman in Tenerife are “heartbroken” and finding her disappearance “hard to come to terms with” as the police search continues.

As previously reported, Spain’s Policia Nacional released a missing poster for Amy Louise Gerard, originally from Cleethorpes, who works at Tenerife’s Loro Parque marine theme park training killer whales.

Amy, who studied animal behaviour science at the University of Lincoln, hasn’t been in touch with anyone. Her family said this is extremely out of character.

Amy’s family and friends are very concerned for her. Her mother Julie and sister Chloe have reportedly flown out to the Spanish island.

Julie posted on Facebook urging people to share the appeal, saying: “We would like to thank friends and family for their continued support whilst the search for Amy continues. Please all keep sharing.

“We are all heartbroken and finding it hard to come to terms with the fact she’s missing. We desperately urge anyone with any information to come forward.

“Please if you were in the area on Thursday 29th night and saw anything unusual or have holiday photos from that night please look through them and think back.

CCTV footage of last sighting

Amy was last seen outside Irish bar Molly Malone in Puerto de la Cruz when she was out with work colleagues in the early hours of Friday morning.

CCTV footage obtained by The Sun shows Amy singing and dancing with her German boyfriend minutes before she vanished.

A search and rescue helicopter has also been spotted near where Amy was last known to have been.

Normally a safe area

Wendy Urquhart from local radio station Spectrum FM said it is “very unusual for a young person to go missing in Tenerife” as it is a “very safe area”.

Amy is said to be known in the community with her disappearance causing shock in the area.
