Driver injured in lorry meat spill crash

The roof of the trailer was ripped off in the crash

A lorry driver has been taken to hospital after the vehicle overturned on the A16 and spilled meat into the road.

The driver was still in the overturned vehicle when police arrived at the scene shortly after 5am on Tuesday, December 4.

They reportedly suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital in Grimsby.

The roof of the trailer was ripped off in the collision and diesel was also spilled onto the road.

As previously reported, police have been telling motorists to avoid the area while the HGV is recovered.

Traffic is building in the area.

Traffic is currently building in the area, where another lorry crashed into homes in late October.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We were called at 5.06am to the A16 at London Road, Burwell.

“A HGV had overturned and its driver was still inside the vehicle. There was also a diesel spillage.

“The roof of a trailer attached to the HGV detached and a quantity of meat spilled into the road.

“The road is currently shut while the vehicle is recovered and is unlikely to re-open until around 12.30pm.

“Minor injuries were reported and the driver was taken to hospital in Grimsby.”
