Search for missing Amy Gerard in Tenerife called off after body found

All lines of enquiry open

Police say they are ‘keeping all lines of enquiries open’ after a body was found during the search for missing Lincolnshire woman Amy Gerard in Tenerife.

As reported at the time, search teams recovered a body from the sea close to where 28-year-old Amy from Cleethorpes was staying in the city of Puerto de la Cruz.

The search for her has ceased and a post-mortem is set to take place today into the cause of death, however investigators have said a formal identification may rely on DNA tests.

An autopsy is being carried out at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Santa Cruz.

Amy Louise Gerard is still missing in Tenerife.

A spokesperson from Spain’s National Police is quoted in the Mirror with the following statement: “The only way of identifying the dead woman may be by DNA because of the condition the body was in after it was recovered from the sea.”

The cause of death is not yet known.

The spot where the body was found is thought to be along the route she would have taken t walk back to her home near Loro Parque.

Amy, a University of Lincoln graduate who worked at a local waterpark as a killer whale trainer, was reported missing after a night out in the city.

She was seen dancing in an Irish bar with her boyfriend before they left in separate directions.

Her family flew out to the island when she was reported missing.
