Tributes to RAF man killed in crash

Cyclist killed in crash with BMW

The 43-year-old man who died after a collision on the A607 this week has been named as Flight Lieutenant Barrie John Doherty from RAF Cranwell.

The crash happened at around 5.30pm on Monday, January 7 at Leadenham near the Troops garage.

It involved a cyclist, John Doherty, and a black BMW.

Police confirmed he had died from his injuries just before 10am on Tuesday, January 8.

A 36-year-old man was arrested in connection to the crash and has been released under investigation.

Police investigations are ongoing and the force has appealed for witnesses to come forward by calling 101.

RAF College Cranwell said in a tribute post: “Flight Lieutenant Doherty a father of two, was well respected and highly regarded throughout his military career.”

Hundreds commented on the post. Sarah Williams said: “A lovely man who will be missed by all who knew him. Rip BJ.”

Josh Plows wrote: “I’ve been cutting Barrie’s hair for many years and only had him and his 2 boys in the shop last week.

“So shocked and saddened to see this. Condolences to his family and friends at this hard time. We will miss you in the shop. Rest in peace.”

Adrian Wood added: “A true professional, it was an honour to have served alongside you and my deepest condolences to your family and friends.”
