Long queues on A16 after lorry carrying melons overturns

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area

There are long queues on the A16 near Spalding after a lorry carrying melons overturned.

Lincolnshire Police are on the scene of the crash, which happened at 3:25pm on Wednesday, January 9.

An eyewitness has warned of traffic backing up the road after the crash and told motorists to avoid the area.

A police spokesperson said: “A white Mercedes artic is on its side on the B1165 Low Road. The vehicle has 44 tonnes of melons on board. A lamppost has been damaged. We are awaiting recovery.”

Spaldinium posted on Facebook about the crash: “Lorry just overturned on roundabout from Low Road onto the bypass. Avoid the area as traffic is backing up.”

It is believed at this time that there are no injuries as a result of the crash.
