Boston affordable housing scheme reduced in size

The officer acknowledge the reduction of affordable homes but said there were benefits as well

Plans to reduce a development of affordable housing  in Boston from 86 to 79 have been given the go ahead.

The plans, for land off Puritan Way, were originally approved in February of 2018, but returned before councillors due to changes by the applicants.

The changes will also see a new electricity sub-station built along with changes to the housing mix and reduced car parking.

The scheme will however remain as 100% affordable housing, said a document before the authority.

It added that many of the issues raised by objectors regarding traffic concerns, drainage and the impact on neighbours had already been raised when the previous plans were approved.

The officer’s report said: “Although the proposed scheme reduces the number of dwellings and therefore the number of affordable homes on this site, it does provide some benefits in terms of potentially less traffic generation from the reduced number of dwellings, a less dense housing scheme and a better layout which will provide some benefit residential amenity.”

Councillors agreed they were “minded to approve” subject to a number of conditions.
