100 to sleep out in wind and rain for homeless charity

They are hoping to raise £30,000 for a new homeless shelter

Around 100 volunteers will sleep rough in Lincoln to help raise £30,000 for a new homeless shelter in the city.

The annual ‘Sleep Easy’ event is in its tenth year and is expected to be the biggest event the YMCA has held so far.

Volunteers will sleep in the grounds of Lincoln Cathedral on Friday, March 15 from 7pm to 7am the next day.

So far, almost £9,000 has been raised of the £30,000 target.

A mixture of local people, businesses and CEOs are expecting a wet and windy night as they build their cardboard shelters.

Last year’s YMCA Lincolnshire Sleep Easy event raised more than £10,500 for the charity.

A prayer vigil to remember those who have died while living on the streets will be held at Lincoln Cathedral at 7pm in conjunction with the sponsored sleep out.
