Driver hospitalised after A17 oil lorry crash

Avoid the area if possible

A man has been injured after lorries carrying oil and cleaning fluid collided on the A17 at East Heckington.

As previously reported, the road was closed in both directions after the crash which was reported to police at 12.56pm on Wednesday, March 6.

The crash involved a lorry carrying bottles of cleaning fluid and a second tanker with cooking oil.

Fire crews from Donington, Sleaford, Grantham and Boston attended the scene. The fire service helped to release the driver of one of the lorries who was left in the care of an ambulance crew.

One man was taken to Queens Medical Centre, his injuries are not thought to be serious.

One lane of the A17 at East Heckington was re-opened at around 3.30pm with temporary lights easing traffic in both directions.

Police said: “We advise people to avoid the area where possible while the vehicles are recovered and the carriageway cleaned.”

Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue added: “Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to release the driver of one HGV and left in care of ambulance.

“Crews also dammed both sides of the incident with earth due to an unknown quantity of bleach spilt into a ditch.”
