Last Mablethorpe bank closing down in summer

Barclays say that fewer people are using the branch than before

Barclays will be closing its Mablethorpe branch in July, leaving residents without any banks.

A poster has been put up in the shop window warning customers that it will close on July 2.

Residents wishing to use a bank will now have to travel out of town to Louth, Skegness or Grimsby.

All customers will be sent a letter by Barclays to explain why the decision was made to close the branch.

Nick Weaver, community banking director for Barclays, said: “The way customers undertake their banking is changing as people increasingly use online, telephone and mobile devices.

“At Barclays’ Mablethorpe branch, customer usage has continued to fall (-28%) and 71% of our customers now use telephone and online banking, which is why we have taken the difficult decision to close it.”

The company is urging any customers with concerns to contact Barclays and will be hosting ‘tea and teach’ sessions for customers wishing to explore digital banking.
