Lincoln slams ‘disgraceful’ proposal to cut elderly benefits

The money would be used to help younger people

Lincoln residents have slammed a peers proposal to cut elderly benefits and replace them with funding to support younger people, to make society fairer for people of all ages.

The House of Lords’ move grabbed headlines with proposals to stop giving out free bus passes and TV licences to pensioners.

Money generated by the cuts would be used to create better apprenticeship schemes and make it easier for young people to get onto the housing ladder.

The Lincolnite asked people what they thought of the controversial idea outside the central market.

Some people called the proposal “disgraceful” while others suggested a means-tested benefits system for the elderly.
