Volunteers battle wind and rain to clean Lincoln river

This story is over

Lincoln volunteers battled through the wind and rain to clean up rubbish from a river.

Around 16 people turned up during Storm Hannah on Saturday, April 27 to clean up the Sincil Dike and the nearby area.

They collected over 15 large bags of rubbish, including a golf bag, scooter and trolley from the water.

Nick Rawsthorne, photographer for the group, said: “Where some just don’t give a hoot about throwing rubbish to the floor, there are many others who will brave inclement weather to pick it up.

“Most went home damp and wind swept, but they had the satisfaction and pride for the work they did.

“Well done folks, I for one am proud of each and every one of you and proud to call you all my friends. Let’s hope you have the appreciation you so deserve.”
