Flood warnings and disruption in Lincolnshire after heavy downpours

What to expect today

Heavy rain has choked some roads and railway lines and seen emergency crews working through the night to pump water from properties in the county.

Flood warnings

There are nine flood alerts and and three severe flood warnings in place across Greater Lincolnshire on the morning of Wednesday, June 12.

Flood warnings, where flooding is expected and immediate action is required, are in place in:

  • Poulton Drain in the Covenham St Marys Area
  • Properties and villages near the Great Eau, Long Eau and Woldgrift Drain
  • River Steeping in Wainfleet All Saints

Flood alerts, where flooding is possible and people should be prepared, are in place in:

  • Louth Canal and Waithe Beck
  • Lincolnshire East Coast Rivers
  • Rase and Uppser Ancholme
  • Bain Catchment
  • River Steeping
  • East and West Fens
  • Minor Watercourses of South Forty Foot Drain
  • East and West Glens

Flooding is affecting the rail route between Boston and Skegness. A number of trains have been affected.

Fire crews battle the water

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said they have received in excess of 100 flood-related calls in the last 24 hours.

They assisted people affected in their homes, businesses and even spend many hours pumping water away from Boston Pilgrim Hospital.

Severe flooding in Wainfleet has affected several village properties. Water was pumped from homes in Great Steeping overnight and the B1195 is understood to have been closed.
