Flooding alerts issued for these Lincolnshire areas

Eight flood alerts and one flood warning have been issued across Lincolnshire after 24 hours of heavy rain.

Government alerts are issued when flooding is possible. In these cases, people should begin to make preparations for protection, travel and other contingencies.

A flood warning is the next level of severity on the scale. In this case, flooding is expected and immediate action is usually required.

The warning, showing on the map in red, is the only one to be issued in the county so far and covers the Stanhope Road area of Horncastle.

Heavy rain is affecting the Lincolnshire Wolds and River Bain catchment, causing the River Waring to rise and flood low lying land and roads in Horncastle.

As reported previously, Banovallum School was closed to all barring GCSE students taking their exams on Tuesday June 11.

People in the warning area have been told: “Please avoid contact with flood water. Our staff are out in the area, checking flood defences, clearing blockages and assisting emergency services and council.”

  • East and East West Fens
