Massive £75k donation to help flood town recover

The Freemasons have got the appeal off to a flying start

Freemasons in Lincolnshire have donated £75,000 to help Wainfleet residents get back on their feet after their town was flooded.

Around 1,000 people were evacuated from their homes after two months of rainfall fell in a few days town.

When the residents get back to their homes on June 24, they will need the money to rebuild their lives.

The Freemasons have kicked off a fundraising campaign, but a further £25,000 is still needed.

A spokesperson for the Lincolnshire Community Relief Foundation said: “All money donated to the appeal will be used to relieve hardship, address repairs and prevent future flooding.

“Stunning generosity by the Lincolnshire Freemasonry has our flood appeal off to a flying start.”

Meanwhile experts are warning the even more homes and businesses could be flooded as the Met Office issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms.
