Work starts on Wainfleet river repair after breach

Work has started to reinforce the banks of the River Steeping in Wainfleet after it breached and flooded the town.

A metal sheeting fence is being installed by the Environment Agency to replace the large pile of sandbags.

Pictures from the scene revealed just how large the fence would be, with each of the piles measuring at nine metres long.

It comes two weeks after the River Steeping burst its banks and forced more than 500 homes to be evacuated.

Residents have now been allowed home to clear up the aftermath of the flood after more than two months of rain fell in just a few days.

Meanwhile, Lincolnshire County Council will launch an independent review into the floods.

Council leader, Martin Hill, said he wanted to “reassure” residents following the flooding which devastated the village this month.
