Disgust after man spotted urinating on war memorial

The local MP has visited the site and posed for pictures

Pictures of a man urinating on the war memorial in Boston sparked outrage and a visit from the local MP.

Matt Warman, MP for Boston and Skegness, visited the site and posed for pictures with Boston Borough Council Leader Aaron Spencer and councillor Alister Arundell after a man was seen drinking alcohol and urinating on July 29.

Pictures emerged on Lincolnshire Live claiming the man had been part of a group who were drinking whisky on Wide Bargate on Saturday afternoon.

This comes after Lincolnshire Reporter’s story which revealed that police had taken no action over street drinking in the town for four months.

Lincolnshire Police put the reduction down to a summer purge last year and insisted that they take the matter “very seriously”.

In a statement from the MP’s party a spokesperson said: “We are outraged to see the footage of urination within the town centre.

“We are working with partners to bring those responsible to justice, not only this incident but other reports of street drinking within the borough.

“Working with the Borough’s CCTV, we’re aiming to cut down the incidents. We would however, like to remind people to report any incidents to 101, and that the figures given recently are due to the lack of reporting.”
