Dog sanctuary gets a treat as revamp plans passed

The revamp will be more relaxing for pets

A dog sanctuary is going to give man’s best friend access to some mod cons following approval by Boston Borough Council.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue, in Algarkirk, has been let off the leash to demolish one of it’s 12-kennel building and rebuild a more modern six-kennel build with an improved design for “a more relaxing environment, which reduces the levels of stress in the dogs.”

The plans received praise from the authority’s Environmental Health team which said the designs should improve protection against noise impact from the centre.

Officers said it would have no impact on nearby dwellings and would not be considered over development of the site.

Designs for how the new build will look from the outside.

In documents before the council, the charity said the demand for the services and improved facilities was “ever-increasing”.

“The overriding objective of this project is to ensure the charity can deliver a centre of excellence and a quality environment, which is bright and airy and has a spacious feel to it,” they said.

“It should also be a place that people enjoy visiting and want to return to.”

Jerry Green has eight full-time and two part-time staff but also has around 20 regular visitors.
