Month-long closure to replace Lincoln traffic lights

The traffic lights will be replaced with new energy-efficient equipment

There will be a month-long closure in place while traffic lights and paving are replaced in Lincoln.

Work will start on the signals on Newark Road at the Fosse Drive junction and the Forum shopping centre pedestrian crossing near Wetherby Crescent on August 13.

The current traffic signals will be replaced with new energy-efficient equipment and the tactile paving will also be updated.

During the works Fosse Drive will be closed at its junction with Newark Road but access to the Forum shopping centre will be maintained through Malton Road.

Subject to weather conditions, the project is expected to be completed by September 13.

Anthony Gent, principal engineer for traffic signals, said: “The existing signal equipment is coming to the end of its life and it’s important that we get it replaced.

“One of the benefits of the new signals is that they are much more energy-efficient, which will help reduce our carbon footprint.

“We do realise this is a busy road, so we have scheduled the works for the school holidays when traffic is much lighter. That should help minimise the disruption.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would advise motorists to use alternative routes where possible.”
