Council gives final go ahead to Spalding Welland Hospital site plans

A supermarket and social housing are both being built there

Final approval has been given for 36 new homes to be built on the site of the former Welland Hospital in Spalding.

Lidl and United Lincolnshire Hospital’s Trust were last year given permission to build a new superstore and social housing on the site – and now Longhurst Group housing association has taken the latter forward with South Holland District Council.

According to drawings submitted to SHDC the housing will be build in two separate sections either side of the supermarket, with new accesses from Roman Bank and Holbeach Road.

How the two sections of housing will look.

The application was approved by officer delegation, with six conditions attached to the plans.

When the plans were approved last year, councillors had concerns over the potential location of the supermarket and the impact on traffic.

ULHT said the money made from the sale of the land would be reinvested back into health services such as fire improvement works and new MRI equipment.

How the scheme fits together with the Lidl Supermarket.
