Shrek community musical invading Lincoln Castle next summer

Their biggest show to date

Shrek the musical will invade Lincoln Castle next summer for a huge open-air performance.

Starring Lincoln Theatre Company has just wrapped up with Oliver! at Lincoln Cathedral but the director is already planning for next year.

In what is promised to be the city’s biggest community production so far, the musical will take over the castle grounds from July 18 to August 1, 2020.

The team behind Starring Lincoln will start preparations next month, but told The Lincolnite they are keen to work with schools and get more children involved.

Ben Poole, Director at The Starring Lincoln Theatre Company, said: “Shrek the musical is going to be lots of fun and its something that everyone loves.

“I’ve already had people asking how they can get involved in next year’s production and when I tell them it’s going to be Shrek they love the idea.

“We don’t have the big budget of the West End but it means that our cast can get a little more creative with their outfits.

“This will be our biggest performance theatrically. People can come into the grounds early with a picnic or grab some food here.

“We are still recovering from Oliver! but when I get talking about our next piece I start getting all fired up again. I’m very excited.”

Before the big show on the night, there will be lots of small theatre pieces dotted around Lincoln Castle for the audience to explore.
