Two hospitalised after A1 Grantham crash

Update: Highways England said at 10.45am recovery of the car and caravan is progressing well. Lincolnshire Police said shortly after 12pm that the male driver of the Kia sustained minor injuries and the road is now open again.


Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash involving a black Kia and a caravan on the A1 southbound near Grantham on Wednesday morning.

Lincolnshire Police, EMAS and Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue rushed to the scene of the crash near Great Ponton.

It is understood that a car towing a caravan overturned on the A1, with the accident being called in to EMAS at 7.39am.

A lane closure was put in place and it is understood that the A1 may need to be fully closed at some point so vehicle recovery can take place.

A spokesperson for EMAS said: “We received a call at 7.39am on August 7 to the A1 near Great Ponton.

“The caller reported that there had been a road traffic collision involving a car and a caravan.

“We sent a crewed ambulance and two patients were taken to Peterborough City Hospital.”
