Man arrested after digger ploughed through Grimsby McDonald’s

He has since been released under investigation

A 19-year-old man was arrested after a digger appeared to break through the wall at a McDonald’s restaurant in Laceby.

Humberside Police launched an investigation after receiving reports at around 4am on Saturday, August 31 of the use of heavy machinery near to McDonald’s on Hilmore Road.

Officers were immediately deployed and on arrival the suspects had fled the scene in number of other vehicles. They left behind a digger.

Police said the digger appeared to have been used to attempt to break through a wall at the back of the premises. The digger is believed to have been stolen from the Aylesby area.

The force said it is believed no entry was gained and no property was stolen, but that there was a significant amount of damage caused to the building.

The 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and questioned by detectives. Police said on Monday, September 2 that he has now been released under investigation.

Police are still appealing to anyone who believes they may have any information to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 124 of August 31.
