Man dies after lorry hits lamppost and veers into ditch

No other vehicles were involved

A man from West Yorkshire has died after his van hit a lamppost and ended up in a ditch near Grimsby.

Police believe he may have suffered a medical episode at the wheel.

Officers were called to the A180 near the Great Coates Interchange near Grimsby during the afternoon of Wednesday, September 18.

An orange and blue box van was travelling along the westbound carriageway around 4pm when it was seen to veer across two lanes, hit a lamp post and end up in a ditch by the side of the road.

No other vehicles were involved.

Emergency crews attended and the driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene.

Humberside Police said: “We think that he could have possibly suffered a medical episode. No other vehicles were involved. The man’s family are aware.”
