Traveller site plans for Spalding village

The site is allocated in the South East Lincolnshire Local Plan

A traveller site could be built near Spalding if South Holland District Council give it the go-ahead.

Robert Doughty Consultancy have applied to the authority on behalf of a Mrs M. A. Compton, to build the eight caravan site, which would home an estimated four households, on Bleu Rate Farm, Millgate, in Whaplode.

Documents submitted to the council said the site is allocated in the South East Lincolnshire Local Plan, which was adopted in March.

“During the preparation of the recently adopted local plan, an extensive search for suitable sites was undertaken,” said the documents

“This application site, together with one at The Stables, Baulkins Drove, Sutton St James, was subsequently allocated as part of the South East Lincolnshire Local Plan.

How the new site would be laid out.

“The application responds to an identified need.

“The site will have little or no impact on the character of the area and that having regard to existing and proposed landscaping.”

The 1.1 hectare site, said documents, will feature planted boundaries on the east, south and west to block views of the site, while the north forms part of a field belonging to the site owner.

Although caravans are transient, each plot will be fenced and will have access to foul water treatment in the form of a mini-treatment plant, a portable water supply and electricity, said the report.

An existing entrance to the site is planned to be moved away from a neighbouring property.
