Heavy rain causes partial ceiling collapse at Lincoln crematorium

A small section of the ceiling has collapsed

A number of funerals have been impacted after heavy rain caused a small section of the ceiling to collapse at the Lincoln Crematorium on Washingborough Road.

The City of Lincoln Council has apologised to families affected, who have all been offered alternative services.

UPDATE from the City of Lincoln Council, 3pm: Services have resumed as normal at the Lincoln Crematorium.

Simon Walters, Strategic Director for Communities and Environment at City of Lincoln Council said: “We regret that due to the heavy rainfall last night, a small section of the ceiling at Lincoln Crematorium has collapsed. We have experts on site who are looking at repairing the roof as soon as possible.

“Unfortunately, because of this, all funerals planned for the day will be impacted.

“We have made arrangements for smaller funerals to continue in another area of the crematorium. For larger funerals, we have made alternative arrangement for services to take place at Lincoln Grandstand.

“We will also be offering families the option of a different service next week when we will open early and late each day.

“We understand this a deeply upsetting time for families and we are doing everything we can to support people to say goodbye to loved ones. We apologise to all those affected.

“If you are due to attend a funeral at the crematorium today, please contact your funeral director for further information.”

Heavy and persistent rain over the last 24 hours has impacted homes, businesses and roads across the county.
