The uphill area of the city will be filled with festive cheer and Santa outfits next month for the 2019 Lincoln Santa Fun Run & Walk, but the event is looking for more entrants and a main sponsor.
As previously reported, the 14th Lincoln Santa Fun Run, which is due to take place from 11.30am on Sunday, December 15, will have a new route.
Entries are currently coming in steadily, with the 1,000 mark fast approaching. The event has room for 2,500 participants and there is still plenty time to enter.
The entry fee is £12 (children under five and dogs are free) and this includes a Santa suit and finishing medal.
Peter Harrold from the Rotary Club of Colonia told The Lincolnite: “The numbers were down last year, partly because of another Christmas commercial event that was then cancelled, but we are confident the numbers will go back up this year.
“It is a fantastic atmosphere, a run or walk, and it is open to anybody. Christmas starts there and it feels very festive. It is a great community event and a great fundraiser for charity.”
The new route
Due to extensive building work taking place around Lincoln Cathedral it has not been possible to include Minster Yard in the 2019 route.
The route will once again take place in the uphill area of the city with a grand finish in Castle Square. The two lap course will start in The Westgate and runners can choose to complete just the first lap (2.6km) or continue on a further 2km for lap two.
The 2019 route – Lap 1.
The second lap starts at Westgate near the water tower before participants will turn left onto Union Road. The rest of the route is as follows:
A left turn onto Drury Lane will follow before running into and through Castle Square and into the Bailgate
Turn right into Eastgate, turn left at The Lincoln Hotel into Northgate and bear left on Northgate leading into Church Lane
Turn left into Newport towards Newport Arch, through Newport Arch into the Bailgate
Turn right into Westgate, turn left into Union Road, turn left into Drury Lane running into Castle Square
Lap 1 runners finish in Castle Square
For Lap 2 run through Castle Square into the Bailgate and repeat Lap 1 finishing in Castle Square
Lincoln Santa Fun Run 2019 – Lap 2.
Any businesses interested in becoming the main sponsor should contact Peter Harrold on 07770 406883 or via email at [email protected]
Peter added: “The event will definitely go ahead and we are looking for a main sponsor. It will make a difference to how much is raised for charity. The main sponsor will have the event named after them, and their name on banners and posters, and they can also enter a team.”
The event will raise money for around 12 different local charities, including Umbrellas, St Barnabas Hospice and St Andrews Hospice.
