New plans revealed for four-screen cinema in Gainsborough centre

West Lindsey District Council said that the development could create 25 new jobs

Developers have lodged new plans for a four-screen cinema in the centre of Gainsborough.

Savoy Cinemas is hoping to renovate the Linsey Centre site in the Market Place, which has been empty ever since Oldrids left in early 2018.

As well as the four-screen cinema, they plan to create three commercial units and build some additional car parking spaces.

West Lindsey District Council said that the development could create 25 new jobs and add £1.3 million to the local economy each year.

If the council grants planning permission, Lincolnshire Co-op’s travel brand and the Post Office would both need to move elsewhere.

The construction could start as early as May 2020 and be completed by May 2021 if it gets the green light.

Trinity Arts Centre is the only other place in the town to watch movies, but it also features bands, theatre and comedy.

Leader of West Lindsey District Council Councillor Giles McNeill said: “It could provide a much-needed additional boost to the evening economy offer for the town.

“This is a key milestone in our Invest Gainsborough journey, which we started in 2016 with the launch of our investment brochure and our ambitious £18 million regeneration plans.”
