Recycling lorry catches fire in Lincoln

“Greta Thunberg would not like this”

A recycling lorry caught fire in Lincoln on Monday, prompting environmental fears from local residents.

Smoke was pictured billowing out from the back of the lorry at around 3:40pm on Lannimore Close in Bracebridge Low Fields.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue got the fire under control after half an hour and have not yet determined the cause.

A local resident commented:

“Greta Thunberg would not like this. The recycling has gone up in smoke.”

A spokesperson for the City of Lincoln Council said: “The cause of the fire is being investigated but it is suspected to be batteries discarded within household waste.

“It was a small fire and was quickly under control. We would like to thank the fire service for their assistance.

“We would remind people to discard batteries at designated battery recycling points and not in with household rubbish.”
