Lincoln to get direct rail link to Doncaster Sheffield Airport

It could take less than an hour to reach the airport

Lincoln will get a direct rail link to Doncaster Sheffield Airport in the next five years if a new station gets the go-ahead.

Currently, anyone travelling from Lincoln to Doncaster Sheffield Airport needs to get a train to Doncaster and then a bus to the airport – taking up to 2 hours and 30 minutes.

If the plan, which has now been submitted to the government, gets the green light it could take less than an hour to get from Lincoln to Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

It also takes 2 hours and 30 minutes through trains and buses to get to East Midlands Airport.

Plans for a new East Coast Mainline Station could be built with just 4.5 miles of additional track and will connect to the existing Doncaster Lincoln line.

The new track is highlighted in blue dashed lines.

The £10 million redevelopment plan for the airport includes expansions of the food and drink offerings, gate bridges, arrival hall, and security area.

Airport bosses believe the scheme can deliver 33,000 jobs in the region in the next ten years and 10,000 of those will be available in the next five years.

Dan Jarvis MBE MP Mayor of the Sheffield City Region said: “I am pleased that this critically important scheme has reached another key milestone.

“The benefits to communities and businesses through connecting the country’s fastest growing regional airport to the national and regional rail network are huge.”
