Lincoln village pub opens kitchen with traditional menu

Pies, curry, lasagna, brie wedges and more

A village pub near Lincoln has launched a food menu for the first time in years as its newest owner continues to put her own stamp on the venue.

Natalie Jones, 35, took over as landlady at The Plough in Sturton by Stow in October 2019 in what is her first solo business.

Among the changes made to the pub Natalie, who is also the chef, launched a food menu with delicious starters such as brie wedges, BBQ Jackfruit spring rolls, mini Mediterranean potato skins, gravy filled mash bites and more.

There are a range of mains to choose from, with meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes including pies and curries of the day, lasagna with a vegan alternative, vegan butterbean stew, steak and burgers. The pies and meat are provided locally by Judges Butchers.

Treacle sponge, spotted dick and jam sponge are among the desserts available to tuck into.

Landlady and chef Natalie, who grew up in Marton and Sturton by Stow, is proud of the progress she has made at the pub alongside her mum Jackie Barnard.

The mother-of-two told The Lincolnite : “It is getting busier all the time and we’ve had some great feedback. I took over the pub as I know it well and grew up in the area, so the pub means a lot to me.

“There was no food service at all when I came here. It has taken off really well. The food service has been popular and we have had a lot of repeat customers, with great feedback on the food, especially our homemade chips.

“We serve traditional pub food, with vegetarian and vegan options, and we are looking to start a carvery service on Sundays in the near future.”

The menu is continually being adapted and reviewed monthly, and a special Valentine’s Day menu will be available ready for February 14 and 15, including steak, venison sausages with a red wine and onion gravy, salmon with a parsley sauce and homemade mushroom wellington.

The Plough is open Tuesday to Sunday with food served from 5.30-8.30 (except for Sunday where there is currently no food service). There is also a takeaway option available via phone or by popping in to the pub. There is a wide range of drinks on offer, including a large selection of gins.
