Man wanted after Scunthorpe robbery victim suffered life-changing injuries

Detectives want to speak to him in connection with the incident

A 26-year-old man is wanted by police after another male suffered life-changing injuries, including the loss of sight in one eye, during an alleged violent armed robbery in Scunthorpe.

Detectives would like to speak to Joshua Esberger in connection with the incident, which happened on Stockshill Road in Scunthorpe on Monday, April 16, 2018.

A man was working at the back of his van when he was violently assaulted by three unknown men. The victim, whose identity is being withheld to ensure his safety, lost the sight in his right eye and was in a pot for nearly a year due to injuries to his arm.

Detectives have carried out extensive enquires and made a number of arrests in connection with the case, but at the time of publication nobody has been charged.

Four men, aged 46, 31, 33 and 62, were previously arrested in connection with the incident and released under investigation. Two further men were also arrested, but later released without charge.

The victim said: “I just want justice. I don’t know who did it and I don’t care what their reason was. I just want justice.

“What happened that night still affects me. I suffer from flashbacks and depression and I am constantly looking over my shoulder.

“It’s had a huge impact on me, my life and my livelihood. I lost my sight in my right eye and I was in pot for 11 months because of injuries to my arm. I just want them locked up for my own peace of mind.”

Humberside Police released a wanted appeal on March 18, 2020 for anyone who has any information regarding Joshua’s whereabouts.

Anyone with information should contact Humberside Police on 101 quoting incident number 16/43406/18. Alternatively it can also be reported through the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
