South Kesteven District Council has closed its customer service centres and public toilets in a bid to improve safety – but street markets are set to continue.

The authority will still be contactable via phone and email, but closed its customer service centres in Grantham, Stamford, Market Deeping and Bourne “for the safety of staff and residents”.

In a series of updates, the authority added: “As part of our ongoing care for residents during the coronavirus pandemic, SKDC-operated public toilets across the district are closed until further notice as we continue our efforts to protect the public.”

However, markets planned to take place in Stamford, Grantham and Bourne are set to continue.

Council leader Kelham Cooke said they would have “a focus on food supplies including fruit and veg bread and other fresh foods.”

He added they would be set up to allow for social distancing.
