Specsavers to close High Street store next week for move

They will move into a new unit in the Cornhill Quarter

Specsavers will close down its High Street store next week and move into a new unit in the Cornhill Quarter the week after.

The opticians will close its doors on Saturday, March 21 and will reopen at 1-3 New Market Buildings on Thursday, March 26.

All the current staff will move over to the new store which will be set over three storeys with the main shop on the ground floor, sight tests on the first floor and staff rooms on the second floor.

The signage plans for the new Specsavers store.

The unit is the former Greenwoods Menswear store, which previously put up ‘store closing’ posters in its windows in November 2018.

It’ll be the latest chain to pack its bags and move to the Cornhill area, which is mid-way through a £70 million revamp.

HMV also recently moved from its High Street location into the Cornhill in January, in place of Brighthouse.

New names to the area include The Cosy Club, Moss Bros, Flying Tiger Copenhagen, Doughnotts, Lakeland, 200 Degrees, Seasalt Cornwall and Neon Sheep.

Earlier this month, three new high-end fashion brands announced they’d be setting up shop in the area, joined by Vietnamese restaurant Pho.

Still under construction is the new boutique cinema Everyman and the Botanist cocktail bar.
