Identity appeal as woman’s body found in Lincolnshire river

The discovery was made early on Easter Sunday

The body of a woman, believed to be in her late 70s or 80s, has been discovered in the River Wellend in Deeping St James.

Lincolnshire Police have issued an appeal in an effort to identify her.

The discovery was made close to houses on Eastgate at 7.30am on Sunday, April 12 by a local resident.

The woman was recovered from the water a short time later. The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: “The woman is thought to be in her late 70s/80s. She is around 5ft 4, of medium build, with white/grey hair and she was wearing a woollen coat over an orange top, headscarf, blue socks and sandals.

“We are currently undertaking enquiries to identify the woman, establish the circumstances leading up to her death and to trace her family.

“We are appealing to the public for help and to ask that anyone who recognises the description of the woman to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“Please call us on 101, incident 59 of April 12.”
