Planning approval for new Cornhill McDonald’s restoration

It won’t be ready in May as originally planned though
McDonalds moved away from its Cornhill restaurant to a High Street location.

Plans to rip out the McDonald’s restaurant in Lincoln’s Cornhill and turn it into a new shop, restaurant or cafe have been given the go ahead.

Officers at the City of Lincoln Council have approved the plans for the 13-14 Cornhill site, including changes to both the inside and outside of the store.

The development, part of the Cornhill Quarter regeneration project by Lincolnshire Co-operative Limited, Lincolnshire County Council, City of Lincoln Council and Network Rail.

Bosses said in documents that the unit will be returned to its original structure while the outside will be made to match the rest of the regenerated area.

The entrance to the building will be moved closer to the street as part of the build.

McDonald’s was due to vacate the site and move into the unit formerly filled by HMV on the High Street in May.

It is unclear at the time of publication whether the coronavirus has changed those plans.

The music store itself has already moved into another regenerated store in the Cornhill Quarter.

A new cinema is also being built and other new restaurants and bars have already been promised.
