Police identify 89-year-old woman found in Lincolnshire river

Formal identification is yet to take place

The body of an 89-year-old woman from the Deeping St James area was found in the River Welland over Easter weekend, police have now confirmed.

As previously reported, Lincolnshire Police issued an appeal in an effort to identify the woman after the discovery was made in the River Welland near to houses on Eastgate at 7.30am on Sunday, April 12 by a local resident.

The woman’s body was then recovered from the water.

Police said that the death was being treated as unexplained before confirming on Tuesday, April 14 that they have now identified the woman.

The circumstances leading up to her death have not yet been established.

The force said: “Formal identification is yet to take place. The woman was an 89-year-old from the Deeping St James area.

“We would like to thank the public for their support with this appeal.”
