A18 reopening nine weeks ahead of schedule

A bit of good roadworks news!

By Local Democracy Reporter

Phase one of the A18’s road safety improvement programme in Grimsby is set to be completed way ahead of schedule, with the road re-opening from Monday, May 18.

Phase one of the £2.8 million road scheme began in January 2020, with works including widening the carriageway and installing vehicle safety barriers between the A46 junction and the entrance to Laceby Manor Golf Club.

As well as this, there is now right hand turn lanes at the Oaklands Hall Hotel and Laceby Manor Golf Club entrances.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport at North East Lincolnshire Council, has said the road re-opening will be a huge benefit for key workers.

“We are currently in unprecedented times with COVID-19, but with the re-opening of this key route, I hope it will allow emergency services, haulage companies, key workers and volunteers to get around while they support all of us during this difficult time.”

The next phase of work will now start in early June, with all phases expected to be completed by May 2021.
