Dramatic video shows moment flames claim combine harvester

The fire caused severe damage

A dramatic video showed plumes of smoke billowing through the air after a combine harvester caught fire, closing a section of the A153

Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue sent crews from Sleaford, Billinghay and Metheringham to the blaze on the A153 at Anwick on Wednesday evening.

Investigations have now confirmed the fire was caused by a fault in the vehicle’s brake system.

There were no reported casualties in the fire.

Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue said shortly before 6pm on Wednesday that severe fire damage was done to the combine harvester and to 40 square metres of road.

Lincolnshire County Council closed the road and is carrying out significant repairs to the carriageway to make it safe. By the time of publication the road had not yet been re-opened.

The fire was extinguished using four breathing apparatus, two hose reels, one main jet and firefighting foam.
