Fire breaks out at Gainsborough woodland

People were advised to keep their windows and doors closed

Fire crews are still at the scene after a woodland in Gainsborough became engulfed in flames on Thursday night.

Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue said shortly after 6pm on Thursday, May 28 that it had six pumps, a water carrier and a command support unit in attendance at Laughton Woods.

People in the area were advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

Five pumps were still at the scene at 6am on Friday as crews were dampening down and steady progress was being made.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue confirmed shortly after 12pm that relief crews were on there way to the scene and were expected to be there, along with other crews, for the rest of the day.

Daniel Cleaver, who was called out as part of the first crews to attend the fire, sent Lincolnshire Reporter photos from the scene.

The cause of the fire had not yet been established by the time of publication.
