£12m Mablethorpe leisure centre redevelopment plans unveiled

An exciting addition to the town

Plans for a £12million redevelopment of Mablethorpe Station Sports Centre have been unveiled.

The proposals from East Lindsey District Council will see the new facility, to be renamed the “Station Leisure and Learning Hub”, include a fitness suite and 25m swimming pool, as well as community and digital learning spaces.

Residents are being asked to take part in a full consultation on the proposals ahead of the planning application being submitted later this summer.

Councillor Steve Kirk, Portfolio Holder for Coastal Economy, said: “This a very exciting project and something we know the people of Mablethorpe have been wanting us to bring forward for some time.

“We know that residents were really keen to see a facility that wasn’t just a leisure centre, something that would serve as a hub for the community and hopefully we’ve done that justice with these plans.

The plans were originally identified last year and were set to be funded by the council, partner organisations and grants.

However, the resort was then included in the government’s £3.6 billion towns fund initiative – which could see places receive up to £25 million to improve transport, broadband connectivity, skills and culture.

The authority said this had “allowed for a more comprehensive” facility, which has been designed by the council along with leisure partners Magna Vitae and specialists Alliance Leisure.

The survey is open until Wednesday, June 24.

The full plans and feedback survey are available online at www.StationSportsMablethorpe.co.uk.

  • An earlier version of this story said the cost of the facility was £5 million. This was miscommunicated by the council and upon later clarification the sum has been revealed to be £12 million. This change has been reflected throughout.
