Ambulance on call crashes with van outside Grantham hospital

An ambulance responding to a 999 call was involved in a crash with a van outside Grantham Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

Lincolnshire Police received a report of the collision at 1.40pm, which happened at the junction between Manthorpe Road and the entrance to the hospital. Police will now investigate the incident.

EMAS said one patient and three members of the ambulance crew were taken to Grantham Hospital for further assessment, with police adding that minor injuries were suffered.

It is understood that severe damage was done to the front of the ambulance and to the van.

Richard Hunter, Ambulance Operations Manager for Lincolnshire, said: “One of our ambulances responding to a 999 call was involved in a road traffic collision at 11.38am on June 30 at Manthorpe Road in Grantham.

“We sent two paramedics in fast response cars and a crewed ambulance.

“One patient and three members of our ambulance crew were taken to Grantham and District General Hospital for further assessment.

“The incident will be investigated by the police and it is therefore inappropriate to make any further comment at this time.”
