Brayford bridge to close overnight for repairs next month

Much needed bridge repairs

By Local Democracy Reporter

The Brayford Way Bridge and Campus Way ramp will be closed overnight for eight evenings in July.

Work will begin to replace the worn out carriageway and bridge joints on Wednesday, July 8.

The closure will be in place from 8pm to 6am for eight weekdays, aiming to opening up as usual on Monday, July 20.

Access to Campus Way via Brayford Way Bridge will be maintained as far as possible, but Campus Way residents are asked to find alternative parking spaces.

Diversions for traffic that use the bridge as a route are as follows:

  • Northbound traffic at the University Roundabout: Ropewalk / East-West Link Road / Cross Street / Portland Street / Pelham Bridge / Wigford Way / Newland / Carholme junction
  • Southbound traffic at the Carholme junction: Newland / Wigford Way / Pelham Bridge / Kesteven Street / East-West Link Road / University Roundabout

Councillor Richard Davies, executive member for highways at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “These works were originally set to start and end in April, but concerns around staffing levels and safe working due to coronavirus led to them being pushed back to this summer.

“The important thing is that we’ve got a new start date and will be carrying out the scheme next month.”
