Council to extend 30mph speed limit outside Lincoln emergency hub

Councillors will be asked to approve changes on South Park Avenue

Councillors could approve the extension of a 30mph speed limit on the road outside the new emergency services hub on South Park Avenue in Lincoln.

Currently the road is covered by both 40mph and 30mph, but bosses of the organisations sharing the build want the lower limit expanded to Canwick Road to cover the entrance to the site and improve safety.

Members of the Planning and Regulation Committee will be asked to approve the reduction next Monday, beginning a consultation process.

Tests carried out at each end of the road found average speeds between 27mph and 35mph.

Council offices say under the authority’s speed limit policy, the location “would not be considered eligible for a reduction in speed limit”.

However, they add that the road is a “borderline case” due to the number of buildings fronting the road and the average speeds falling within 3mph of the limits for a 30mph road.
